Fun young adult book— a romantic science fiction tale that should appeal to a variety of readers. Rather an interdisciplinary read— art, physics, along with nerds, star-crossed lovers, and Big Brother—makes for a bit more intellectual experience.
As a high school teacher I have to read a fair amount of YA Fiction so I can stay in touch and make recommendations to students. Usually I find it somewhere between tedious and spirit killing so Amy Nichols was a very pleasant surprise. The novel had a solid story, the characters were well developed, and the writing is smart. It's nice to see some YA Fiction that doesn't write down to its audience.
LOVED this book! I was excited to read NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE because the parallel universe concept seemed unique and it didn't disappoint. I was a little afraid that it would be too science-geeky for me and while a few of the concepts were over my head, the author did a fantastic job of making me NOT feel like an idiot while I was reading. ;) It was so nice to have a book where the characters were smart and not superficial. I'm a middle school librarian and can already think of some science-loving students who are going to love to read this. Can't wait for the next book!
Loved the book and the interplay and relationship development for Danny and Eve. Read this one and While You Were Gone back to back and note the interplay of the two universes as well. Action-packed and great characters.
Hit all the points on my wish list

- Engaging characters who make you care about them.
- Loads of action and suspense.
- Plot twists that you didn't see coming.
- Enough techno-babble to make the sci-fi believable.
- Poignant, budding romance.

Blew through the whole book in a day because I could barely put it down. Can't wait for part 2!
Science--I LOVED the science!!!! Eevee Solomon has the heart AND brain of Meg from A Wrinkle in Time but Now That You're Here is it's own unique story. I absolutely adored how this book came together at the end, especially scientifically. Now, don't get me wrong, the whole thing was fabulous, but there was something special about this completely different explanation for traveling through parallel worlds. And I always have a soft spot for solid endings that don't tie everything up in a neat little bow. Not to mention, now I'm itching for Duplexity II--While You Were Gone, so I can see what was happening on the other side. A fabulous debut for Amy K. Nichols and I can't wait to see what she does next. <3
I don't think that I've read a book quite like Now That You're Here. This is one of those genre-bending novels, a mix of science-fiction, romance, mystery, and thriller...all wrapped up in a fun, fast YA novel, complete with Doctor Who and Star Trek references. Someone said there was also some Klingon and/or Elvish in the book, but I couldn't really tell you since I don't speak either one. ;)

I absolutely LOVED the main female protagonist, Eevee. She is strong, smart, caring and active. Everything that I want my own daughter to be. I loved that Eevee was open to believing that the new Danny was from a "different world" and was willing to help him. What I didn't like was how easy she slipped into skipping class once she met him but I'm sure that's just the mom in me talking. If it had been 16 year old me reading this book, I probably would have found it romantic. ;)

Something else, I really loved about Now That You're Here is that although it is being marketed as a YA novel, it could just as easily be given to a middle-schooler to read. There is nothing in this book that would make me uncomfortable to give to either my son or daughter to read (well, except the skipping of school but (spoiler alert) Eevee does end up getting in trouble for that).
