Awesome read keeps you on the edge. Just waiting to see what Maggie does next. A true page turner, and a must read

I'm still not sure what happened in this novel. I kept waiting for Maggie to step it up and for the story line to grab me like it usually does in a Maggie O'Dell mystery...but...it just didn't happen.
I got the feeling that Alex just gave up on this book and decided to "get it over with."
I gave it 3 stars only because I still love the characters. This story line didn't do them justice.
I'm reading the Maggie O'Dell series in order. If the next one is this weak...I may not finish the series.
For me it started right of fast and interesting as i was in the Coast guard Maggie and Platt have to speed up their interest in each other, thought it ended a little fast, hurricane?? Don't want to say to much about it, Enjoy it and hope you do too.
Good reading, but not great. It felt like the main purpose of this book was to introduce a new protagonist that would be appearing in later books (Liz, the rescue swimmer.) Don't get me wrong - I liked the character, and would definitely read the books.
However, this book was lacking on details, and that's unusual for me to notice. It felt about 50 - 75 pages too short, as if the author just sketched out a story outline and didn't completely flesh it out. For example, you are introduced to the weak-willed, greedy Scott, but never are detailed the consequences of his inaction to buy flood insurance (unless I missed it.) Then again, it's pretty obvious when the area is hit by the hurricane.
In any case, it's an enjoyable read, but buy in paperback, not hardback. I look forward to Kava's next book.
Alex Kava is the best author I have read in a long time. Her books are extremely hard to put down so be warned you will lose sleep. I bought every one of her books and read them in order as they were written I have written a the same review for every one of her books.
The author's style is a bit choppy with short chapters and jumping between places, characters, etc. This novel even more so. The beginning is very intriguing and the plot with two cases being connected is pretty good but it feels like the story was rushed at the end. There were so many details about all those secondary characters and most episodes were pretty detailed and then at the most critical moment the chapter ends and we don't know what exactly happened, how the main character saved the day, what happened to the other characters. I had to check several times to make sure I haven't missed a chapter or too.
Love Alex Kava and all her characters. This book has a story interwoven with issues faced during Hurrican Issac. I happened to read this book while Hurricane Harvey, Irma and Jose were blasting through the US. Even though this is fiction, Ms. Kava is very good at giving the reader good facts underlying the story. I learn from her books.
