Everything was wonderful as to the delivery and the book as a product, but the translation took beautiful old English (middle English?), and translated it to modern speak. Julian of Norwich spoke of God as being "homely" as in family, kin, a loved one from home and reduced it to "familiar" or "friendly". It also had, perhaps a feminist angle as "men" was translated as "people". In doing so I believe the translators insistence that she was faithful to the intent was truthful as far as it goes, but it lost most of the charm, and warmth that a more readable translation, while keeping with as much of the original language would permit, would have conveyed.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, however, the newest edition of this beloved and wonderful text, Revelations of Divine Love by future Saint Julian of Norwich, ISBN 9781548722753 , as displayed in the "look inside" feature on the listing page, is, most unfortunately, an exceptionally cheap edition.

To explain, the Warrack translation, by far the best in my opinion, has been printed time and again to various results. In this edition, existing as both paperback and digital, where the text in the digital version of this book is clean and crisp, the text in the physical, paperback edition, is exceptionally PALE. While the paper used to make this book appears, at first glance, to be of a decent quality, it is actually quite porous and a bit too thin, resulting in a great deal of bleed through, what readers often call "ghosting", such that you see a shadow of the text on the back of the paper cast very clearly through the page, as you are attempting to read it. Rather than use higher quality, thicker, denser paper, the publisher of this text chose to simply dial back the amount of ink they used in printing on the pages.

And so, as to the end result, this text is very difficult to read. It is both pale, almost gray in appearance, and plagued by ghosting from the words printed on the back of the pages. I recommend selecting another edition of this wonderful text, if you actually wish to be able to read it. My search for the perfect edition continues. Where the layout of this volume is wonderful, the pale text and bleed through make it a failed attempt. They could fix it, using higher quality paper and slightly bolder text, even going up a font size, but the issue of the paper, governing the choice to use so little ink, would have to be dealt with first.

Julian of Norwich was a true English mystic (c. 1342-1420). Her book is nothing more than the recapitulation of the Christian belief. That part of the above quote i. e. "it is such a light in which we may live meedfully (rewardingly), with travail deserving the endless worship of God." is just the saying of all of what I want to do in this life.

I cannot praise Julian of Norwich enough for her English and also for how much as an example she has been in giving me direction to work, to live, and to heal.

Thus we see the harmony of the interplaying of creation, fall, redemption, and salvation, ringing throughout.
