I seldom read series as nothing annoys me more than to be chugging along full steam to be met by a cliff hanger ending that can only be resolved by buying another book. But the premise of the first book interested me, a reading of the sample added to that interest and it was offered on one of Amazon's e-book sales so I gave it a shot - and loved it! Enough to buy the second and am on my way to buy the third when I finish this review. First off want to applaud the author on the telling of a good tale (actually two, cause the first was just as good as this one) and especially on the fact that she doesn't leave you hanging at the end of the book. Do you want to know more about Amelia, the heroine, and her strange "gift"? as well as more about the other characters? Yes - but each book resolves its main story and you don't have to buy another one to find out who the villain is, whether the butler did it or if someone made it thru a life or death situation. The are each a good entertaining read on their own and the reason I want to read more of them is the reason I want to follow up on more books by any author I enjoy - because they tell a darn good story and I want to read more darn good stories.Another plus to Ms. Stevens as an author - she doesn't use sex as a filler or to up her page count. There is sexual tension and even some encounters (although so far poor Amelia hasn't had very good luck in that quarter) - but, thank heavens, it doesn't take over the story. I feel like editors must really push female authors these days to fill their books with hot and steamy scenes - which makes me wonder if anyone every told Steven King or Dean Koontz when they started getting published that they needed "more sex" in their books?
As stated at the beginning of this review, am off to buy the 3rd book and to check out what else Amanda Stevens has written - that's about the best review I can give!

"I've heard people say that the hardest thing in the world is to live with someone you don't love. But I've always thought it would be far more difficult to live with someone who doesn't love you."
4.5 stars!
I swear, I loved this book more than the last. No regrets!! This book has new characters and brand new scenery. I loved everything about it!
It was deliciously mysterious and creepy. These are the only books that have succeeded in scaring me into goosebumps and shivers. It got my heart thumping constantly, i's the perfect October read, hands down! This book was another learning experience, you learn so much about being a cemetery restorer from the main character, Amelia, that you can't help but feel like you're one as well. I love it!
Amelia's thoughts seemed a little repetitive to me at one point but it didn't throw me off from the over all experience. I did see many things coming a mile away but it was still surreal to watch it all unfold. Crazy doesn't even begin to describe it.
I loved how this book delves deeper into Amelia''s past, answering questions from the first one while at the same time, uncovering newer questions. This book had me double-guessing every single character's motives, just as any good thriller should do. This, like the first book, was super heart-breaking. Which is expected, when it's a ghost story. This was an intense roller coaster ride and I can't wait to see what else is in store for these characters! I can't , and will not, choose between Thane and Devlin. Jeezus. Those two are going to be the death of me- I mean Amelia. The death of Amelia. Anyway, I missed Dev A LOT so I can't wait to see more of him!
I think that it is quite possible that I enjoyed this book, The Kingdom, more than the first in the series The Restorer. There was something about The Kingdom, how it twisted back on itself and answered those hanging questions from book one that had confounded me.
Amelia Grey has been called to Asher Falls to complete a graveyard restoration. Thornhill Cemetery is actually the second cemetery in Asher Falls, after the first Thornhill had been flooded out leaving the markers, statuary and coffins at the bottom of what is now a lake.
The moment Amelia steps off the ferry, she knows something is different; she can feel it deep down in her soul. Asher Falls is talking to her and she does not know why the town's ghosts are reaching out to her.
Amelia has been able to see spirits since she was a young child, but living by her father's rules, she has learned not to interact with them. Not to let them in. This time, this town, things are different - the veil between their world and hers is thinner. They are reaching out to her in a way that she has not been prepared for.
What is it about Asher Falls that is so different? Maybe if she can go back home, to Rosehill, the place she calls home she can talk to her father and have him, once and for all, explain to her the circumstances of her adoption. What really happened to her as an infant? Most importantly, what does he know about Asher Falls and Thornhill Cemetery?
Caught in the grasp of a place and its people, Amelia finds herself fighting for the truth and at the same time fighting for her life. There is something about this place and the strange women that inhabit this town.
In Asher Falls, Evil is a real entity. It is capitalized, as if it is a person - a looming being. A person that walks down the street like any other inhabitant of a small town. This is not a place where she can stay, she has to get home and back to Devlin, the police detective from the first book, even with his own very physical ghosts, she needs to be with him, no matter what the cost.
